What is the Rold Route?
The Rold Route is the main path that takes you from Leyndell, Royal Capital to the snowy region beyond. It’s a key part of progressing the story. You can’t skip it, and you must get a special item to access it.
Step 1: Beat Morgott, the Omen King
You can’t get to the Rold Route until you’ve defeated Morgott. He’s one of the big mandatory bosses. You’ll find him at the top of the Erdtree Sanctuary in Leyndell.
Beating Morgott is no small feat. He’s fast, hits hard, and uses holy attacks. Once you finally take him down, you’ll be ready for the next step.
Step 2: Get the Rold Medallion
After defeating Morgott, a new friendly character appears: Melina. She’ll show up and give you a key item called the Rold Medallion.
You need this medallion to use the Grand Lift of Rold. It’s your golden ticket to the frozen land beyond.
Step 3: Start from the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace
Now that you’ve got the medallion, it’s time to find the route. The entrance is tricky if you don’t know where to go. But we’ve got you covered.
- Start at the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace in Leyndell.
- Head north and take a left up the stairs.
- Keep going straight and go past the giant statue holding a bowl (you can’t miss it!).
Run through the archway and continue north. After a short jog, you’ll reach a large red and golden door. Go through this and you’ll come to the Forbidden Lands.
Step 4: Cross the Forbidden Lands
This area is gloomy and filled with fog. It’s also packed with sneaky enemies and a few nasty surprises.
You’ll want to follow the main path, lighting up Sites of Grace as you go:
- Forbidden Lands Site of Grace: Right after the big door.
- Grand Lift of Rold Site of Grace: Right before the lift itself.
Be careful! Many enemies here are strong and quick. But don’t worry — you’re almost there.
Step 5: Use the Grand Lift of Rold
You’ve made it! The Grand Lift of Rold stands tall before you. Walk up to it and interact.
Select the option to “Use Rold Medallion.” The lift will activate and take you up to the Mountaintops of the Giants. Ah, the fresh bite of snow awaits!
